In 2022, Bling pivoted to a new business model with a new product that was aligned with our mission. In only 6 months, we created an app with features to pay and receive money, debit card, overdraft service, and financial health solutions.

My role & team

As Senior product designer, I was the owner of the full end to end design process. I led the user research actions to understand user needs, collaborated with my team to define and prioritize our roadmap, planned and developed the UX, structured the information architecture of the app, and ideated new features working from low fidelity sketches to high fidelity prototypes. I also created illustrations and animations for the app, and mock ups for marketing use.

I was part of the product team that also included the CPO, two product managers, a data analyst and a UX researcher. We collaborated very closely with the tech, legal, risk, marketing, and branding teams.

The highlights

BLING’s mission is about helping users be more financially healthy and reducing the stress of those struggling to make ends meet. In 2022, we needed to pivot our product and create a new app from scratch. It was the biggest challenge on my career, and definitely and exciting one.

Our process was based on constant collaboration, design feedback and prioritizing what our users cared most about. We aimed for a minimum viable product that brought incremental value for users from the start, trading off some of the ideas and features for future development. The many conversations we had with our users were essential to achieve it.

The takeaway

The process was not perfect and we had so many external blockers thrown our way. We went back and forth on some things, we made compromises and aligned with every team involved. We killed ideas that we were in love with, kept others that were the heart of what we did. But we did our research, we collaborated, we listened and executed faster than we’d ever done it. And we have a brand new fintech app to show for it.
